"But, I know, for certain, you know, two, three years down the line, my anxieties would comeback. It always is like that as an artist," Khalil said in an interview.
Kapuso star Khalil Ramos made his theatrical debut as the lead star Jon in the second run of Jonathan Larson's musical Tick, Tick...Boom! to critical acclaim.
According to Khalil, he relates to his character Jon, an aspiring composer in 1990s New York City as he questions himself if he made the right choice of pursuing his dream.
"Alam mo, as an artist, parang season 'yan, e, parang phase. 'Yan ang isa sa pinakamatinding kalaban ng isang artist, especially if you really love what you're doing," Khalil revealed in an exclusive interview with GMANetwork.com.
"I've been here in this industry for 12 years now, and there were phases in my career na naramdaman ko 'yun, maraming beses na, and it never goes away.
"Right now, I'm happy. I get to do what I love doing in front of the people that I love the most. So, I have no problem at all.
"But, I know, for certain, you know, two, three years down the line, my anxieties would comeback. It always is like that as an artist."
Khalil explained that he would feel his anxiety every time he felt his career is plateauing, and that is the reason why he accepted the role of Jon.
"Primarily, as an artist kasi, pagnapi-feel kong medyo nagpa-plateau na ako, 'yung hindi na ako masyadong naggo-grow, like Jon, ina-anxiety ako. Like my character, parang feeling ko, wala na akong mapupuntahan," he shared.
"Feeling ko, wala na akong mai-offer, mapag-iiwanan ako. So, ang mindset ko as an artist, I really have to push myself, keep pushing myself, and I couldn't be afraid of failing.
"And this, I really set myself up for huge failure kasi I've never stepped on a stage before in my life. It's my first time doing, and it's not an easy material for a first-timer."
As the main star of the play, Khalil is always on stage for one hour and 40 minutes.
"I never leave the stage for an hour and 40 minutes, and it's a 58-page script with six monologues. So, talagang, in terms of pushing myself, I really push myself to the limits on this one."
The last weekend of Tick, Tick...Boom!, produced by 9 Works Theatrical, will happen on September 1-3 at RCBC Carlos P. Romulo Auditorium in Makati City.
