Predator from the Philippines

The all-Filipino squad faced off with another Philippine team in the finale to win its back-to-back title.

The Philippines slayed in the Dota 2 competition at the recently concluded Asia-Pacific Predator League 2020/21 Grand Final.

When the smoke cleared, the six-man defending champion TNC Predator was the last team standing to take home the trophy and a cool $50,000 (P2.4 million) cash prize.

Interestingly, the team had to beat another Filipino team, Neon Esports, in the finals to win the tournament anew.

Neon Esports had a magical run and many were keeping an eye on the team after the squad placed 5th and 6th in another major tournament heading into the competition.

The team even had TNC Predator's numbers after a dominating win in their previous encounter.

However, TNC Predator proved more experienced and steadier when it mattered.

The team's championship pedigree showed in its strategy, something that was too much for Neon Esports to overcome in the crucial stages of the match.

TNC Predator opted to go for a triple Black King Bar timing strategy to counter Neon Esports' magic damage dealers, a winning tactic that served the champions well.

TNC Predator paraded an all-Filipino line-up for the tournament after it parted ways with its two foreign players, Kim "Febby" Yong-min and Damien "kpii" Chok, last year.

The squad though added Marvin “Boomy” Rushton and Jun “Bok” Kanehara to fill up the vacated slots, a move that obviously paid off big time in the end.

Despite the loss, Neon Esports' Erin Jasper "Yopaj" Ferrer was named as the tournament's Most Valuable Player (MVP).

Eagle 365 from Indonesia, meanwhile, dominated the PUBG competition to claim the crown.

The PUBG tournament was fiercely fought but Eagle 365's impressive showing in the first eight rounds, where they won three consecutive chicken dinners in rounds six, seven, and eight, and a consistent top-five finish in the other rounds were more than enough to carry them to the title.

Eagle 365's victory earned them USD37,500, while Vietnam's Cerberus and No.1 settled for USD15,000 and USD7,500 respectively.

It was announced that Japan will be hosting the APAC Predator League 2022 Grand Finals.
