The Taal volcano started emitting massive amounts of ash on Sunday, January 12 prompting the government to declare a complete evacuation of the millions of people living within the volcano's vicinity.

Currently, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS) has raised the alert level to "4," which means an "explosive eruption" is imminent and could take place in the next several hours or days.
