Ravi from K-pop group VIXX announces his departure from the band following a military service evasion issue.

Korean singer and rapper Ravi has officially left K-pop band VIXX as he is embroiled in allegations of attempting to avoid the mandatory military service in Korea through false medical documents, according to reports.

VIXX's management company, Jellyfish Entertainment, sent out a statement on Tuesday, announcing Ravi's departure from the group, as reported by Korean news portal AllKpop.

"Hello, this is Jellyfish Entertainment.

"We would like to sincerely thank the fans for their continued support for VIXX, and we notify you of member Ravi's withdrawal from the team.

"After a lengthy and serious conversation with Ravi, it has been decided that as of today, Ravi will leave VIXX.

"We offer words of apology to fans who have supported VIXX for causing you concern."

Prosecutors have allegedly requested a Seoul court to sentence Ravi to two years in prison for evading his military service by falsely claiming to have active epilepsy symptoms.

Ravi allegedly had acted as if he had fainted, received a hospital examination, and got a diagnosis which was submitted to the Military Manpower Administration.

The singer allegedly conspired with his agency's representative and a military service broker to make a fake epilepsy diagnosis, which was used so he could be exempted from serving as an active duty soldier.

Ravi had previously enlisted for the military in 2022 as a social worker.

On April 11, Ravi attended the first court hearing of his military service evasion case. The 30-year-old K-pop star reportedly admitted his mistakes. Through his legal representative, Ravi explained his reason for evasion, that he was the "only profit earning artist of his agency."

During his trial, Ravi repented for his mistakes and said, "I was the only artist in the company generating profits, and the implementation dates for the contracts that were signed before COVID-19 were being postponed without certainty, so with the burden of contract cancellation charges, I was desperate to delay my military service," Ravi explained in his social media post, also translated by news portal Soompi.

"With desperation, I made a foolish decision, and when my worries about the company and the contract issues were resolved, I voluntarily registered for public service and was carrying out my service since October of last year," he said.

He continued, "I am sincerely grateful to all the members who have been with me for the long period of 11 years, and I feel apologetic beyond words."

Ravi also apologized to his fans, as well as to epilepsy patients and their families "who must have been hurt by this self-justified wrong decision I made," including his fans.

In 2012, Ravi debuted with VIXX under Jellyfish Entertainment.

In 2019, Ravi left Jellyfish Entertainment and established his own record label, but remained a part of VIXX.

Originally a six-piece act, Hongbin left VIXX in 2020. With Ravi's departure, the group has now been reduced into a four-member band composed of N, Leo, Ken, and Hyuk.
