The first Philippine exclusive cover of the famed Archie Comics was officially revealed on the last day of SuperManila Pop Culture Convention, held at The Podium in Ortigas City.

The first Philippine exclusive cover of the famed Archie Comics was officially revealed on the last day of SuperManila Pop Culture Convention, held at The Podium in Ortigas City.
The cover was created by Filipino artist Miguel Mercado and features Archie Andrews wearing a Manila jeepney shirt, while his friends Veronica Lodge and Betty Cooper are seen holding cups of halo-halo.
Meanwhile, Reggie Mantle is seen taking a selfie while Jughead Jones is enjoying a stick of either an isaw or barbecue.
Mercado explains, “'Yung Rizal monument super iconic din kaya ko siya pinili na ilagay dun sa background.
“Nag-suggest rin 'yung iba na si Jughead naka tsinelas, si Betty at si Veronica may halo-halo.
“Ito 'yung Archie ng kabataan ko so sobrang nostalgic ng feeling ko and then I'm glad na 'yung reception, sobrang welcoming, sobrang warm, at sobrang saya ng mga tao.”
The cover is part of the first volume of Archie & Friends Travel, a compilation of comic strips showing the five in different parts of the world.
Mercado is also the illustrator behind the recently announced Amazing Spiderman #33.
