Sand art of Rabiya Mateo

The province eyes to turn sand art into an added attraction to boost tourism.

A resort in Iloilo celebrated the win of beauty queen Rabiya Mateo by creating a stunning sand art.

The sand art at Fredman Resort featured the face of the newly-crowned Miss Universe Philippines along with the words, “Congratulations Rabiya Mateo."

Rabiya's coronation as Miss Universe Philippines 2020 was aired last Sunday, October 25, on GMA Network.

The 24-year-old stunner is a native of Iloilo, making her recent victory a source of great pride to her kababayans.

The art was created by kids from the district of Arevalo with guidance from local artist Jerwin Sano.

Other public personalities that the group had turned into sand art were Iloilo City Mayor Jerry P. Treñas, NBA superstar Lebron James, as well as religious images of Jesus Christ and the Virgin Mary.

The local government hopes that the sand art would help boost tourism in the area. Visitors can watch the young artists while at work from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. and take pictures of the finished artwork for souvenirs.
