Singer Zsa Zsa Padilla allotted time yesterday, January 14, to visit the grave of Comedy King Dolphy at The Heritage Park in Taguig.
Zsa Zsa posted pictures of her visit on Instagram and Facebook.
“For the first time in 8 years, I wasn't able to put flowers on my Lovey's tomb during “Araw ng Patay” and Christmas so since it's Inday's day off, cleaned together with my driver and ordered flowers from CAB. July will be his 9th death anniversary. Please say a little prayer for him,” she wrote in the caption.
Rodolfo Vera Quízon Sr., popularly known as Dolphy, was Zsa Zsa's former long-time partner up until his death on July 10, 2012.
Zsa Zsa, who is now in a relationship with architect Conrad Onglao, never fails to visit Dolphy's grave during special occasions except last year at the height of the pandemic and the resulting lockdown.
AGAINST ALL ODDS
It was in 1989 when Zsa Zsa and Dolphy fell in love with each other.
The relationship was controversial as the couple was still committed to other partners at the time.
Dolphy was also much older than Zsa Zsa by 36 years.
Zsa Zsa and Dolphy eloped to the US in 1990 as public backlash about their affair intensified.
“Nang naging kami ni Zsa Zsa, nabulabog ang buhay namin. Nawalan ako ng show; tinanggal ang mga commercials ko. At that time, we seriously thought of living in the States. Nakabili na nga kami ng bahay doon, eh,” Dolphy said in his 2008 biography, Dolphy: Hindi Ko Ito Narating Mag-isa.
The Comedy King recalled having to sell some of his properties to stay afloat financially throughout that period.
Zsa Zsa and Dolphy were able to return home eventually and in time managed to resume their respective careers.
Their union was blessed with a child, Zia, who is now a singer, and adopted daughter, Nicole.
Dolphy, a notorious ladies' man, met his match in Zsa Zsa and the singer would be his last love until his demise in 2012.
The Makati Medical Center said in a statement that the comedy icon died "due to multiple organ failure secondary to complications brought about by severe pneumonia, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, and acute renal failure."
The couple never had the chance to get married due to several reasons including Zsa Zsa's pending annulment case with ex-husband Dr. Modesto Tatlonghari.
The annulment was finally granted by the court in 2011.
“I waited for 10 years and when it finally happened, I still couldn't believe it. Ang tagal-tagal na kasi, eh!” Zsa Zsa told entertainment journalist Ricky Lo.
Sadly, Zsa Zsa and Dolphy didn't have enough time by then to plan for a proper wedding.
“The generation gap kinda gets to you after a while. Sometimes you outgrow a person, and in my first marriage I felt I outgrew my first husband, that's how I saw it, why we separated,” Zsa Zsa confided to Bianca Gonzalez in an interview four months after Dolphy's passing.
“But Dolphy was just so precious. It really depends. For some that I've seen, it really works,”
She added, “Of course, out of the 23 years, there were years that were not so good, or had problems.
“The years really have gone by so fast. Parang you just wish you could have had more time, but I think we really spent it well.”
