After giving birth, many mothers find themselves swept up in a wave of emotions--joy, love, exhaustion, and even unexpected sadness.
This is what first-time mom Megan Young experienced after giving birth to her and Mikael Daez's son Leon.
“During the first two months siguro, naramdaman ko yung intense sadness, intense emotions, intense happiness. Lahat extreme, e, so hindi ko napipigilan na parang intensely sobrang saya ko. Sa sobrang saya ako, naiiyak talaga ako,” Megan told GMANetwork.com and other entertainment media after she was introduced as the new celebrity endorser of Sisters Sanitary Napkin on Friday, October 3.
She then confessed that she once found herself getting annoyed with Mikael.
“Thankfully, tinulungan niya ako doon sa pag-process ng emotions na 'yon--whether extreme happiness, extreme sadness or extreme anger--during those times.
“So feeling ko, during the first two months, ganun ang naging emotions ko kasi I really have to process everything.”
Megan is thankful to her husband for helping her navigate her emotions with patience and open communication.
She said, “Mikael helps me emotionally. Tinutulungan niya ako na i-process ang lahat ng extreme emotions na na-mention ko kanina. So, if there's something that I have a problem with, before I would hide it from him. But now, I learned from him na, 'Hindi, mag-usap tayo kasi paano magiging maayos ang problema natin kung di natin pag-uusapan, kahit na mahirap.'
“I guess in a marriage, you talk about the difficult things like you get through it. It's been working really well for us.”

Aside from experiencing extreme emotions, Megan also admitted that because of her mommy duties, she would often forget about taking care of herself.
“If I'm going to be honest, noong umpisa talaga, hindi ko naaalagaan ang sarili ko. That's one thing I'm grateful again for my husband,” the celebrity mom said.
“He also pushes me to be the better version of myself. Like, 'Okay, I want you to enjoy taking care of Leon, but I want you to enjoy that habang inaalagaan mo ang sarili mo.”
“Lagi niyang pinapaalala, 'Ano yung gusto mong gawin? Ano yung gusto mo sa sarili mo?' Minsan, 'Uy, mag-gym ka today.' Kasi, feeling niya nao-overwhelm ako minsan sa responsibilities as a mom. So, sinasabi niya, 'Huwag mong kalimutan ang sarili mo. Ako nang bahala rito.'
Through Mikael's care and support, Megan realized that raising a child is something for both husband and wife.
“So, having that reassurance helps me get out of that zone and that mom guilt, na parang, 'Oo nga, team naman kami dito as husband-and-wife.' Dapat hati rin kami sa responsibilities.
“Sometimes… Hindi naman sa pinagdadamot ko but, I think, it's a mom thing parang you just wanna be in charge of everything. 'Ako na ang bahala rito, kaya ko na 'to.' Pero dapat matutunan ko rin na kaya rin naman ni Mikael. Kahit injured siya ngayon, kayang-kaya niya 'yan.”
Right now, Megan is grateful to be slowly returning to her normal routine before pregnancy.
“The things that I enjoyed for myself are one, I'm able to work out now, na clear na ako ng doctor ko. Even just walking for 30 minutes a day, sobrang happy na yung sa system ko, and it makes me feel so much better.
“Nakakapagpa-nails na ako, mga maliliit na bagay na manicure and pedicure, these are the things na make me feel so much better about myself. Oo nga, naaalagaan ko rin ang sarili ko, so I feel better carrying myself through the day and taking care of my baby,” she concluded.
