In the latest episode of Mikael Daez and Megan Young's podcast, "#BehindRelationshipGoals," the celebrity couple talked about how they were able to adapt a fairly minimal lifestyle.
At the beginning of their podcast, Megan went on to admit that she had a hoarding problem. She said that she would keep old stuff such as clothes, shoes, and souvenirs in her closet for years, even if these items were just collecting dust.
According to Megan, she would attach a lot of meaning and memories to these objects and keep them despite their worn out condition.
Her mindset about these sentimental items slowly started to change with time and she has now transitioned to a more practical and efficient way of life. And although she's thrown away all these items, her special memories about them will always remain.
Afterwards, Mikael and Megan then shared the lifestyle changes they made in order to lead a more minimal life.
First thing Mikael did was to remove material things that were redundant in his life.
"As a human being, you only have one set of eyes, one set of hands and feet, and you can only put your attention into one device at a time. When you realize that you're not making the most out of secondary and tertiary devices, unless you have a unique situation as a professional, then sayang naman 'yung pera na linalagay mo diyan.
"That's when I started discarding gadgets and high-value gadgets that I didn't need, I would sell them.
"That's a running theme for me for all the choices that I make. Do I have something at home that does this for me? If I buy this object, that means that I have to dispose of something," he said.
Adding to this point, the couple also shared that they recently sold one of their two cars because they realized that they had one too many cars for their current lifestyle.
According to Mikael, "It's so difficult making the most of your cars when there are just two of you. If you have three cars and there are two of you, automatically, there's gonna be one that's gonna be left out. Yet you still have to maintain it, you still have to take care of it, you still have to wash it, you wanna make it look nice pa rin.
"We decided that having more cars than you need, which is usually just one-to-one, of course this change maybe when we have kids, but having more cars than you need is such a huge inefficiency in life. That's one of things which we kind of discarded right away."
Lastly, they then encouraged their podcast listeners to try shopping for second-hand objects such as gadgets, shoes, and furniture.
