Miss Grand International statement

The Miss Grand Cambodia organization responded to a statement from the Miss Grand International organization that the country did not meet agreed 'requirements'.

The Miss Grand International pageant is currently involved in an international scuffle as one of its license holders has vowed to prevent it from ever returning to their country.

The Khmer Times reports that Miss Grand Cambodia 2024 Program Manager Imm Sokunthea has posted on social media that next year, “there is no program called Miss Grand in Cambodia”.

The post came after the Miss Grand International organization alleged that Cambodia failed to meet the “requirements as stipulated in the host agreement contract.” The Facebook post with the announcement has now garnered more than 50,000 reactions, 14,000 comments, and has been shared more than 5,000 times.

The cancelation has resulted in the withdrawal of Miss Grand Cambodia, Bee Sotheary, who the Khmer Times reports made the announcement in a group chat with other contestants where she said she would not be traveling with them to Thailand. Bee Sotheary also reportedly noted that Cambodian organizers made the effort to accommodate the pageant.

Meanwhile, Vietnamnet Global reports that Miss Grand Costa Rica Macarena Chamberlain has also withdrawn from the competition due to the changes in the pageant impacting her mental and physical health negatively. Macarena made the announcement on her Instagram account, which is now set to private.

“In the past few hours, my mental and physical health has been severely impacted due to last-minute changes from the organizers. While I understand and appreciate the pageant's efforts to improve the contestants' experience, it has been difficult to adapt to the current situation, and I have to prioritize my health,” she shared in her statement.

The Philippines is still participating in the Miss Grand International pageant, represented by Miss Grand Philippines CJ Opiaza.

CJ Opiaza was crowned at the final show held at the Newport Performing Arts Theater, Newport World Resorts, besting 19 other queens.
