RBonney Gabriel no age limit for miss Universe candidates

The lifting of age restrictions for the Miss Universe pageant certainly widens the pool of possible candidates.

Filipinas who feel like they missed the chance to become a beauty queen may now have a second chance to do so as the Miss Universe Organization has announced that there will be no more age limits for the Miss Universe pageant and its affiliated pageants.

The announcement was made on the Miss Universe Organization's official Instagram account, as well as by reigning Miss Universe R'Bonney Gabriel during Tanner Fletcher's Spring 2024 New York Fashion Week presentation.

Women's Wear Daily quotes R'Bonney as saying that she loves Miss Universe being “always out first in line, looking for ways they can be more inclusive and better live up to the platform that they've designed”.

The announcement posted on the organization's Instagram story also made clear that the change will “apply for all 2024 pageants globally.”

The announcement makes the upcoming Miss Universe coronation night, set to happen on November 18 in Ecuador, the last iteration of the pageant to feature an age requirement from its candidates.

Representing the country in that upcoming pageant is Kapuso star Michelle Dee, whose pasarela was just recently shared by the Miss Universe Philippines organization.

A post shared by Miss Universe Philippines (@themissuniverseph)

The Instagram Reel was the first time that the Miss Universe Philippines shared part of Michelle's preparations for the upcoming pageant. A month before that, Michelle had teased in an Unang Balita interview that the Miss Universe Philippines team had been polishing her performance.

“Sabihin nating perfect na, mas kaya pang i-perfect. Obviously, I have so much trust in my team, I have much trust in the organization,” she said. “We all know I love giving a show and I love looking the part as well, so abangan niyo talaga.”
