After postponing the pageant finale due to cases of COVID-19 among contestants and staff, Miss World 2021 in Puerto Rico has been rescheduled to March 16, 2022, as announced by the organization via Facebook today, December 22 (PHT).
“We are so excited that we are staying in Puerto Rico to crown the new Miss World. We have been overwhelmed by the support of the people here. The countdown and final planning [have] begun,” said Julia Morley, CEO of the Miss World Organization.
The pageant's global telecast will also air the pre-recorded content they had filmed around Puerto Rico for the past month, featuring the island's “rich culture, beautiful landscapes, beaches and most importantly, the warmth and friendliness of the people.”
Last December 17, the pageant's coronation night was postponed because of an increase in reported COVID-19 cases among the contestants and staff.
Arnold Vegafria, Miss World Philippines Organization national director, released a statement confirming that Philippine bet Tracy Maureen Perez tested negative for the virus.
“We would like to reassure local pageant fans that our official candidate, Ms. Tracy Maureen Perez, has tested negative and is taking all precautionary measures to ensure her safety and well-being. Amid the unexpected turn of events, she continues to uphold her promise to do her best to bring home the crown,” the announcement stated.
Tracy returned to the Philippines on December 20, noting how the past month had been a “rollercoaster of emotions” for her.
“...While I did my best to keep myself together and give my 100 [percent] every single day as I fight for our country, I'm now on my way to full recovery - physically, mentally, and emotionally,” she said.
The Cebuana beauty queen is vying to be the second Filipina to win the Miss World crown, following Miss World 2013 Megan Young.
