Let's explore the roles that Ryza Cenon, Raprap Padilla, and Renz Valerio play on Joaquin Bordado.
Let's explore the roles of Ryza Cenon, Raprap Padilla, and Renz Valerio whose portrayals in "Joaquin Bordado" provide a balance to the main characters' dilemmas. Text by Jillian Q. Gatcheco. Photos by Mitch S. Mauricio and Jason S. Lim.
Ryza as Eliza
Jason (
Mark Herras) is initially paired with Diane (
Iwa Moto) in the show, but later on, another love interest will come up - his tried and tested onscreen partner Ryza Cenon, who will play Eliza.

The last project Mark and Ryza had together was
Fantastic Man, where Ryza played Mark's love interest and superhero sidekick. This time, her character becomes involved with Jason, not knowing that he is the brother of her father's nemesis.
Ryza is all praises for Mark, saying that she knows how to jive with him and that they are similar in many ways. "Madaling katrabaho [si Mark]; kabisado ko na siya. Nage-enjoy kami sa isa't-isa," she says, adding that as a leading man, Mark is "maalaga" and "supportive."
Ryza may have had a few action scenes in
Fantastic Man, but in
Joaquin, her character Eliza is the epitome of a prim and proper lady. "Gusto ko [sana ng action scenes] kung mayroon, [pero] feel ko wala!" she says with a laugh.
Aside from her primetime show, Ryza just finished her stint with
Bitoy's Funniest Videos as a host for one of its segments. Aside from focusing on her career before love, Ryza imparts that one of her priorities for 2008 is to buy her family a new house. "Nagso-solo ako ngayon, e. Hindi ko kasama family ko, kasi nasa Abu Dhabi [Capital of the United Arab Emirates] silang lahat. So ako lang mag-isa, sinasamahan lang ako ng lola ko," she says.
As for her next project, Ryza promised that she'll keep iGMA updated.
Raprap as Mico
If Jason, played by Mark Herras, is the epitome of a bad boy, his best buddy is the complete opposite. "Si Mark, sobrang barumbado dito. I'm the opposite - geek, nerd, good boy, parating good influence [sa kanya]," explains Raprap Padilla, who plays Mico.

Twenty-year old Raprap says that it's his first time on primetime TV, although he has been raised to be quite aware of the stuff that happen in the world of showbiz. His father is Rommel Padilla, brother of
Joaquin Bordado's star
Robin Padilla.
"So yun, parating kasama [sila] mag-taping, tapos parating [nakakapanood], so [nagkaroon na ako ng] interest [pumasok]," says Raprap.
It was quite an experience for him to have the opportunity to work with different veteran actors. He also got along well with Mark Herras, who regards him as a "kabarkada" already even if they just met during the first taping.
Raprap took a break from his studies (he's a sophomore college student at San Beda Alabang) to concentrate on his acting, but he says that he has plans to go back to school in June 2008.
When he's not in front of the camera, Raprap likes to collect Marvel comics and indulge in his love for target shooting, basketball, Arnis, and Muay Thai.
When asked what people should look forward to in
Joaquin, he answers that it's definitely his uncle Robin. "Nakikita ko kasi na okay yung story, nabasa ko, and iba yung dating ng character ni tito Robin -- pag nagste-stay ako sa bahay nila, talagang nakikita ko yung pagfo-focus niya sa character niya. Deep ang character niya dito."
Renz as Jimboy
Little Jimboy played by Renz Valerio is the son of Sofia (
Iza Calzado) and Joaquin Apacible (Robin Padilla). He serves as his mother's pillar of strength, especially in times of uncertainty as brought about by his father's newfound purpose.

Renz has gone a long way career-wise, considering he's just a 9-year-old third grader. Some of the big shows he's been in include
Darna,
Sugo,
Atlantika, and
Kamandag, among others. His mestizo looks and good demeanor have earned him the chance to play the younger versions of the main characters, like the young Aquano (
Dingdong Dantes) in
Atlantika.
Although he's still young, he already knows that this is the path he wants to take in life, saying that he has always dreamed of seeing himself on TV. He even criticizes his own acting when he feels like he didn't perform well! "Minsan pag kulang expressions ko, malungkot ako!" he shares.
Renz describes a scene he particularly enjoyed in
Joaquin: "Noong na-kidnap po kami. tapos nakatali kamay namin at naka-blindfold kami. Medyo nag-action scene po ako! Suntok-suntok!"
When asked if he would want to be an action star someday like his kuya Robin, he shook his head and replied that drama is what he really wants to do. He looks up to his Ate Iza, Kuya Dingdong, Kuya
Richard
Gutierrez, and Kuya
Alfred Vargas among the local actors.
