Movie and Television Review and Classification Board (MTRCB) gives an update about the controversial July 24 episode of the noontime program It's Showtime.

In a press release issued on July 29, the MTRCB said it conducted a hearing with representatives from It's Showtime, ABS-CBN Corporation, GMA Network Inc., Zoe Broadcasting Network Inc., and ALLTV.

"All parties were given the opportunity to be heard regarding issues stemming from the TV show's episode aired on 24 July 2026 during its 'Memerimar' segment. As part of due process, the Board listened to the explanations presented and reiterated its mandate under Presidential Decree No. 1986 and its Implementing Rules and Regulations (IRR) to ensure that TV programming remains fully compliant with broadcast standards," as stated.

Following the hearing, the Board said it remains committed to upholding broadcast standards while considering public feedback. The MTRCB's Hearing and Adjudication Committee ordered the respondents to file a verified Joint Position Paper within seven days

"The Committee likewise directed the respondents to submit a Joint Undertaking outlining concrete measures to strengthen compliance with MTRCB standards, particularly in relation to live, improvised, and comedy segments. In addition, the respondents were instructed to designate an On-Air Compliance Officer who shall be authorized to monitor live broadcasts and immediately intervene, when necessary, to prevent potential violations of MTRCB rules and regulations," they said.

As stated, the case continues and will be resolved after the committee evaluates the parties' submissions and evidence in applicable laws and due process.

"As the matter remains under consideration, the Board shall refrain from making any further statement that may prejudge its final disposition."

Last July 28, MTRCB summoned the program's producers and representatives of the media networks airing It's Showtime after receiving public complaints over alleged inappropriate scenes in a "MEMErimar" skit during the "Laro, Laro, Pick" segment.

One of the scenes that drew backlash featured Vice Ganda and Showtime Babydoll Johaira. Some viewers criticized their exchange for its alleged racially insensitive and colorist remarks.

The day after the episode aired, the Unkabogable Star publicly apologized during the program.

"Nakarating po sa aming kaalaman na may mga madlang people po na hindi nagustuhan o na-offend sa ilan sa aming jokes o biruan dito sa Showtime, pati na rin sa mga ginagawa namin sa MEMErimar na they found the jokes offensive or insensitive,” Vice said.

The comedian said the entire It's Showtime team, including herself, had listened to and understood the public's concerns.

"Gusto lang namin ipaalam po sa inyo na the last thing we want is to displease you o hindi mapasaya ang aming madlang people. Kaya naman, ina-acknowledge po namin ang inyong sentimyento at humihingi po kami ng paumanhin sa inyo. And we will try to do better. Maraming maraming salamat po."
