NCT's Taeyong gives a glimpse of his multiverse in new track film for 'SHALALA'

By Jashley Ann Cruz

As we draw closer to hearing NCT's Taeyong's first solo album, the main leader of the K-pop boy band continuously showers his fans with glimpses as to what it will entail.

NCTzens' theory about the multiverse being the focal point of Taeyong's upcoming album has been made true when the multi-hyphenate artist released a creative track film in support of it.

The newly released video saw Taeyong talking to TY BOT, a computer-generated AI whom he asked for help from. He wrote, “Help me to understand the world in my mind. The worlds that I wanted to show in this album.”

TY BOT then went on to give everyone a brief description of the songs included in the new album. It includes “Virtual Insanity,” “404 File Not Found,” “RUBY,” “Back to the Past,” “Let It Go,” and “Move Mood Mode.”

The computer described “Virtual Insanity” as a “standout song where Taeyong expresses confidence in himself, imagining himself as a character in a virtual world and possessing the same abilities in reality. He showcases his boldness by likening himself to powerful characters like Son Goku from the manga 'Dragon Ball' or Grand Chariot from the manga 'Super Granpix,' who possess unparalleled strength that others cannot overlook.”

On the other hand, “404 File Not Found” can resonate with a lot of NCTzens who are currently feeling lost in life. TY BOT explained, “The lyrics talk about looking at yourself in the mirror and feeling unsure. But Taeyong also encourages listeners not to stay stuck and to find their own path, even if it's not the perfect answer.”

Meanwhile, “RUBY” is said to tell the story of memories and regrets with a past lover but also imposes that it goes beyond romantic relationships. “It's about valuing all the things that we hold dear. The lyrics at the end suggest a longing for meeting again in the future, not just with romantic partners, but with all the important connections in our lives.”

Taeyong further dissects the past but this time in a calm manner through his song “Back to the Past.” TY BOT shared, “He reflects on a tough childhood, with adults saying negative things about him and even dealing with a leaking roof during heavy rain. But he also shows that he has succeeded because of his own efforts.”

“He expresses gratitude towards his family for going through those tough times together. The song shows how those painful experiences shaped who he is today,” it further says.

Moving on from the past, Taeyong also showcases “Let It Go” whose lyrics “talk about regretting not being able to move on, even when you want to start a new love. But by saying 'let it go,' the song shows a determination to break free from the past and move forward.”

Lastly, Taeyong's most highly-anticipated song with Red Velvet's Wendy “Move Mood Mode.” TY BOT revealed, “It captures the excitement of new love, like when you start a fresh relationship. It describes the joy and sweetness of falling in love, using phrases like 'Just by looking at that person, my heart crumbles,' and 'I love every aspect of you.'

In the video, Taeyong finally asked TY BOT, “Can you make me the main character of all the worlds?” A few minutes later, the K-pop artist finds himself in various landscapes he's set to explore.

Taeyong's first solo album SHALALA is set to be released on June 5, 2023, at 6 p.m. (KST). We can't wait for your new music Taeyong!
