Lea Salonga reaches another milestone in her career when she debuts as a Broadway co-producer.
Broadway actress Lea Salonga has a new title under her belt as she joins not only the cast, but also the producing team of the Broadway show Here Lies Love as a co-producer.
Lea shared the news by posting a screenshot of her title and accomplishments on her Instagram on June 18.
She wrote on her caption, "Speaking of debuts, I'm making my own tonight as a BROADWAY PRODUCER! I blame this squarely on the mighty shoulders of @clintramos and @joseiswriting. What have you gotten me into?!?”
Jose Antonio Vargas, one of the producers, also welcomed Actor and comedian Jo Koy to the production team.
Meanwhile, Los Angeles-based Filipino artist Garth Garcia also recently announced that he will be joining the 'Here Lies Love' team as a community investor, and expressed how he considers investing in the play as one of the highlights of his career.
“I saw the potential kaya nag-invest ako. Ang ganda ng kuwento. The story is worth telling. Plus, it's David Byrne! He's a brilliant guy. And also, it would be an honor to be part of this historic musical with talented Filipino artists,” he said in a statement.
Here Lies Love is a disco-pop musical based on the concept music album by David Byrne inspired by his research on the life of the former first lady Imelda Marcos. The play has an all Filipino cast and the production team mentioned that they will be rotating guest actors from the Philippines in various roles.
Aside from being a co-producer, Lea will also star in the play as Aurora Aquino, the mother of former Senator Ninoy Aquino, for a five-week run starting July 11 to August 13.
Previews of the play began on June 17 and the official opening schedule will be on July 20.
