Eight new cast members are added to 'Squid Game 2.'
Squid Game 2 confirms eight stars have been officially unveiled as part of the cast.
Park Gyu-young (Sweet Home, Celebrity), former Iz*One member Jo Yu-ri, Kang Ae-sim (Be Melodramatic, Move to Heaven), Lee David (The Fortress), Lee Jin-uk (Sweet Home, Miss Granny), Roh Jae-won (Missing Yoon, Ditto), Won Ji-an (D.P.) and BIG BANG former member Choi Seung-hyun (Tazza: The Hidden Card, Commitment).
The newcomers will be joining other new cast members for Season 2 including actors Yim Si-wan, Kang Ha-neul, Park Sung-hoon, and Yang Dong-geun. Squid Game Season 1 actors who will be returning are Lee Jung-jae, Lee Byung-hun, Wi Ha-jun, and Gong Yoo.
Previous reports included criticism from fans who noticed the lack of female cast members in Squid Game after season 1 actresses have departed the show. Jung Ho-yeon, who portrayed Sae-byuk in Squid Game 1, won the Best Actress Award at the Actors Guild of America (SAG) Awards in February 2022. In March 2022, she also received the prestigious Critics' Choice Super Awards for Best Actress.
Lee Yoo-mi, who played Ji-young, made history by winning the Best Actress award at the Emmy Awards last September. She became the first non-English-speaking drama actress and the first Korean actress to win the award.
“This week, cast members and showrunners gathered for their first table read, with the production of Squid Game Season 2 starting later this year,” Netflix said in a press statement. “From rising stars to veteran actors, the ensemble cast boasts a diverse range of talent and experiences. Director Hwang Dong-hyuk, who won an Emmy for the first season, will return to direct and executive produce the entire second season.”
Squid Game Season 2 is directed by its first season director, Hwang Dong-hyuk, and is set to begin filming in the latter half of this year.
