Kris Lawrence : 'I’m in the place where I am supposed to be'

At 31, Kris Lawrence is already a contented man.

He has a career that was once beyond his imagination, an ever-growing passion for music, and a family that he loves dearly.

“I’m very happy with my life. I couldn’t ask for more. I feel like I’m (really) blessed,” he said in an interview in Tunay na Buhay.

Kris is fortunate to have parents who, although lacking in musical background, supported his dream to become a musician. His parents were from the corporate world - dad was an accountant and mom was a billing specialist.

But they went all out for him – through piano lessons and band practice.
Aside from singing, he plays the piano, the guitar, the cajón, and the eggshaker. Kris keeps expanding his skill, showing that both his talent and passion are developing by the day.

Back in the US where he lived a comfortable life, Kris had no inkling that his dreams would be fulfilled in the Philippines.

In 2004, his friend and former bandmate Jay-r convinced him to come back to Manila and pursue a music career. “I wanted to follow my dreams talaga,” he shared.

He gave up the life he built in the US and his relationship with his girlfriend, but he knew he made the right choice. His sacrifice was rewarded by a triumph in a singing competition and several albums.

“No regrets sa pagpunta rito. Alam ko talaga na ito ‘yung tamang decision. I’m in the place where I’m supposed to (be),” he added.

It was also this musical career that led Kris to the love of his life.

He sang for one of the show tours of Kapuso actress Katrina Halili in the US, and that started it all.

Kris recalled the first time he saw Katrina in a magazine cover. He had told his friends, “You know what, guys? I’m gonna marry this girl.” His friends just laughed at him, but looking back, he had the last laugh
because his statement became a reality.

The two are set to wed in 2016.

Kris and Katrina now have a one-year-old daughter named Katrence, and Kris has committed his life to making his little girl happy. “My life is dedicated to Katie as of now, so everything I do is for her,” he declared.

With a fulfilling career and a beautiful family, Kris shared his formula for happiness: “When you want something, when you have a dream, don’t stop. Just keep on going because it will come.”
