Kapuso stars win big at the 1st PEP List Awards


Reaping awards here and there, Kapuso stars sparkled and soared at the first ever PEP List Awards.

A spectacular night graced by the biggest and brightest names in the Metro, the event was held last May 20 in the Grand Ballroom of Solaire Resort and Casino in Parañaque City.

The award-giving body aims to recognize actors, actresses, TV shows and movies that have stood out and made an impact in 2013.

Hosted by Ai-Ai delas Alas and Lucy Torres-Gomez, the program featured special performances from Kapuso stars like Sef Cadayona, Wyn Marquez, Jonalyn Viray and Kyla.

Kapuso stars swept awards in various categories, including the PEPsters’ choice category, whose winners were voted by the website’s readers and the Editors’ choice category, whose winners were chosen by the PEP editors.

For the PEPsters’ choice category, Kapuso leading man Tom Rodriguez went up on stage twice. He received the Breakout Star of the Year award and the Celebrity Pair of the Year award, which he shared with his My Husband’s Lover co-star, Dennis Trillo.

GMA’s child stars also made a splash. Niño star, Renz Valerio took home the Male Child Star of the Year award, while television’s youngest host, Ryzza Mae Dizon took home the Female Child Star of the Year award.

Kapuso artists did not disappoint in the teen category either. Former loveteam, Elmo Magalona and Julie Anne San Jose bagged the Male and Female Teen Star of the Year awards, respectively.

One of GMA’s top leading ladies, Lovi Poe dazzled in a sexy, sheer gown that night. The Ang Dalawang Mrs. Real star was the recipient of the Fab Star award.

Eat Bulaga and Startalk host, Joey de Leon was honored with the Showbiz Treasure award for his contributions to the industry through the years.

Eat Bulaga host, Bossing Vic Sotto ruled that night. Even though he was not able to make it to the awards night, he sent a video acceptance speech for his Male TV Star of the Year award.

For the Editors’ choice category, Kapuso stars rose to the top.

The night’s biggest winner was Tom Rodriguez, who again took home the Breakthrough Star of the Year award. My Husband’s Lover, which he headlined with Dennis Trillo and Carla Abellana was named the Primetime TV Show of the Year. Tom, Carla, director Dominic Zapata and GMA’s VP for Drama, Redgie Acuna-Magno accepted the award.

Eat Bulaga hosts Bossing Vic Sotto and Ryzza Mae Dizon cemented their star power as they were again chosen as Male TV Star of the Year and Child Star of the Year, respectively.

Veteran actress Gloria Romero, who has starred before in GMA drama series, Forever was awared the Female Showbiz Treasure Award. She will also be appearing in the upcoming GMA Telebabad series, Niño.

Of course, the Kapuso Primetime King and Queen reigned supreme at the PEP List Awards.

Dingdong Dantes was recognized for his social advocacies through Yes Pinoy Foundation. He was one of the night’s recipients of the Thumbs-Up Award.

Carmela star, Marian Rivera, who looked regal in white was chosen as the Female TV Star of the year.

The award-winning actress was described by PEP Editor-in-Chief, Jo-Ann Maglipon as an actress of great versatility who can also dance well. Maglipon added that Rivera has consistently remained visible in the showbiz sphere for the past several years.
