Boy Abunda advises MJ Ordillano to up his brand equity as a host

By Nherz Almo

MJ Ordillano is serious about his dream to become a popular host in the industry.

The 2022 Mister International Philippines was one of the celebrities who attended “The Public Speaking Huddle” featuring Dr. Boy Abunda at the Philippine Women's University last Thursday, September 14.

During “The Huddle,” the aspiring host asked the King of Talk for some tips to become well known in the field of hosting. MJ recently hosting Miss Bicolandia with actress Thia Tomalla.

As a talent manager, Abunda, who is known in showbiz as Tito Boy, told MJ to continue improving his skills.

“My advice to you para yung equity mo ay tumaas, meaning, 'What makes me different when I do it?” Not as a teacher of public speaking but as a manager, you need to know what is your brand equity, your edge. 'When MJ hosts a beauty pageant, what is it that he does that sets him apart?”

Instead of strictly following the script, Tito Boy advised MJ to study his script ahead and practice how to deliver it.

He also noted, “Use your instinct, react to the moment, be present in the moment. Because you cannot do rationality and instinct exercise when you do your job when you're not present. As we say, you have to show up, be there.

“Kaya when you do your job when hosting Miss Bicolandia and you simply read and simply deliver as how others would do it, why should I get you again next year.? Ang sarap pag-isipan, paano kaya natin aatakihin ito na hindi nila ako makakalimutan, di ba?”

In an interview with GMANetwork.com after the event, MJ reiterated his desire to become a versatile host.

“That's the ultimate goal of mine as I was growing up,”he said.

“As frightening as that dream could be, I'm in the position na every time I live or every single moment that I live, nakikita ko ang sarili ko na, 'Oh, wow,' it's like a manifestation at its finest. I'm just progressing.”

He also mentioned that he got more inspired upon knowing that some of his idols also started to where he is right now.

“When I asked Tito Boy to be at that level of being a host, grabe, I've just been so focused at manifesting and doing everything it takes for me to be at that level. Like I said, the most important thing is to embrace my authentic self talaga. Yun ang pinakaimportante talaga.”

Then, he was teased if TV hosts Dingdong Dantes, Luis Manzano, and Robi Domingo should feel threatened by him.

MJ jokingly replied, “Ay naku!”

He continued, “I love them all and they're all my role models. I just wish that I could be like them someday.”

Aside from hosting gigs, MJ has also started doing acting projects. He recently appeared on Marian Rivera's weekly drama anthology titled Tadhana.

The Sparkle artist will also have a bit role in the upcoming GMA Telebabad series Love Before Sunrise.
