Sparkle GMA Artist Center's up-and-coming stars proved that they can be a powerful voice in mitigating the effect of climate change for future generations as they attended Climaction, a multi-stakeholder forum organized by Nestle, Climate Change Commission, and GMA Network, which happened on November 11 at Diplomatic Hall in Marriott Hotel Manila.

Twenty-three Kapuso stars attended the forum where they got a chance to hear from Climate Change Commission executive Joe Mari Francisco, Masungi Georeserve co-founder and managing trustee Ann Dumaliang, conservation storyteller Celine Murillo, and Kindmind founder Abi Mapua.

Afterward, the Sparkle stars went into a breakout session to discuss creating useful content on social media that can greatly affect the environment.

Youth speak

"Para sa akin, napakaimportante nitong event na 'to kasi kami, ang dami-daming natutunan, kung paano mas mapapangalagaan pa 'yung kalikasan natin," Matt Lozano said at the event.

"Since meron kaming mga platforms na pwede kami mag-share doon, e, kumbaga 'yung age bracket namin, mas madali silang makaka-relate sa amin kasi kami mismo 'yung nagsasabi sa kanila kung paano magiging mas mabuti 'yung mother nature natin."

Angela Alarcon added, "I learned about Masungi Georeserve talaga and how to save it, like 'yung mga proper steps as a youth and show to [fellow] youth on how to save the environment in our small little ways."

Brianna said, "I guess this is more of a reminder na our generation has a lot of access to information, especially to the internet and social media, and what I've learned from this is kailangan natin gamitin 'yung tools na 'to responsibly to promote awareness."

Shuvee Etrata admitted, "Before coming in, I thought, ang matututunan ko lang is about climate change, the immense impact of it for us actors, content creators pero I was actually proud [and] amazed kasi they also taught us about content creation. Hindi lang about climate change natutunan namin dito."

Aside from them, also attended Climaction were Sandro Muhlach, Seb Pajarillo, Nikki Van, Vianna Ricafranca, Kayla Davies, Nikki Co, John Clifford, Naomi Park, Julia Pascual, Aya Domingo, Keanu McGrath, Kate Ramos, Keisha Serna, James Graham, Zyren dela Cruz, John Rex, Matthew Uy, Lei Angela, and Patricia Coma.

Keynote speaker

GMA Integrated News pillar Howie Severino was the keynote speaker in the afternoon session of the forum, attended by business leaders and professionals.

Sir Howie said in an interview, "Many of these big projects that are changing the environments, nasa coastal areas, ayan din 'yung unang tinatamaan ng climate crisis, 'di ba? 'Yung coastal areas.

"Itong event na 'to is an opportunity to remind everyone na importanteng issue 'to, this is an emergency, this is an urgent issue kasi dito sa choices na ginagawa ng gobyerno, minsan siyempre, ang inuuna kung ano 'yung kikita ng pera. Of course, importante 'yun dahil nagge-generate ng trabaho, we need livelihood, but at the expense of our long term future.

"Kailangan laging tinitimbang kung ano 'yung environment cost kapag nag-i-initiate tayo ng economic activities."
