Kapuso kontrabida on screen, loving fathers off-screen

Since Filipino viewers are hooked on telenovelas, they are also as attached to hating on the kontrabidas who help bring out the life and drama in the shows.
Off-screen, meanwhile, they are fan favorites and family men. No matter how much we despise their characters, at the end of the day, they’re still the talented actors we’ve grown to love.
In the Kapuso Network, there is a rich roster of actors whom we love to hate. Here are three of the men who annoy, scare and irk us every so often.
Ryan Eigenmann
Though part of the showbiz royalty family of the Mesas and Gils, Ryan has etched his own name in the industry. With over a dozen antagonistic roles in the Kapuso Network, he has become a resident kontrabida who is known to deliver stellar performances.
He has effectively become hateful to many from his earlier portrayals in Kirara: Anong Kulay ng Pag-Ibig as Bulik, Sana Ay Ikaw Na Nga as Leroy, Etheria as Marvus, and Captain Barbell as Abel, to his more recent presentations in Amaya as Angaway, Magdalena as Baron and Indio as Sadapa.
Today, he plays the mean Alfred Alcantara in The Half Sisters. The opposite holds true in real life as he is actually a cool and hands-on dad to Catalina Rae and Ruis Cayel.
Paolo Contis
From child star to experienced actor, Paolo Contis continues to impress. His versatility is unmatched as he could be all hateful, loving and funny. He didn’t fail to be mean in shows like Aso ni San Roque and Love and Lies. We were endeared to him in Villa Quintana as he played the thoughtful and concerned father to Lynette. On Fridays, he tickles our funny bones in Bubble Gang.
Although he frequently plays the bad guy, he has proven that he is kindhearted and relatable in real life. Like Ryan, he is a loving dad and a fun co-worker.
TJ Trinidad
This charmer temporarily allows us to hate him when he plays the kontrabida. Recently, he was the overprotective and clingy Earl Villaraza in The Borrowed Wife. He played a plastic surgeon who lost his lover and changed someone else’s name and personality to have her back in some way.
However, real life TJ is far from Earl as he admits that he wouldn’t hurt a woman and he continuously shows that he is the sweetest dad.
