Alessandra de Rossi, who played the character of Tonton's (Euwenn Mikaell) mother Elay in Firefly, could not help but laugh as she looked back on her working relationship with film director Zig Dulay.
In an interview for the MMFF 2023 entry, Alessandra mentioned her involvement in the film and how she asked the director if they were to go for the mainstream or indie path.
She shared, “Isa lang ang tinanong ko sa'yo noon… ano ba'ng gusto [mo na] atake [rito]? Mainstream ba o indie?”
Meanwhile, Direk Zig emphasized his connection with Alessandra.
“Gamay na namin 'yung sining ng isa't isa,” he said.
Not only do they know each other's art, but the duo are also “fans” of realism. According to Direk Zig, their common denominator focuses on the visuals, the feeling of the movie, and how to let the message cross the viewers.
Their connection made the process of making Firefly easier and Alessandra's deep involvement in making the movie.
Direk Zig revealed that Alessandra would even contact him personally to talk about how to perform scenes in the movie which resulted in the smooth shooting and the making of Firefly.
He also commended Alessandra's versatility as she plays the mother of Tonton in the film.

Direk Zig said there were worries about how Alessandra would be able to convey the movie's message and let the viewers know that Euwenn is her son. But she greatly delivered, which amazed the director.
