A teacher has admitted posting a threat against officials and a teacher of the Dumangas National High School in Iloilo, which led to the suspension of face-to-face classes on Wednesday, August 5, 2026.
The teacher reportedly admitted the act during a conversation with the representative of the Department of Education (DepEd)’s School Division Office in Iloilo.
The teacher posted online that a principal, assistant principal, and a teacher would die in August.
The teacher apologized for what he did.
“Inamin naman ng teacher na na-post niya yung mga items sa social media and he also asked for apology sa Schools Division Office, at the same time, sa school rin, of course, sa disruption,” said Leonil Salvilla, spokesperson of the School Division Office in Iloilo.
POSSIBLE CAUSE
The teacher was given 72 hours to explain formally why he made the threat but authorities are looking into a dispute between him and the school administration as possible trigger.
Three students told GMA Regional TV Ratsada Balita that the teacher reportedly got angry because they sold chicken pastil in campus.
Pastil is a dish from Mindanao, which is made of steamed rice topped with shredded meat and wrapped in banana leaf.
The teacher reportedly sold the dish at the school canteen.
The students said they were forced to sell because they want to earn money to help support their families and their studies.
“Merong bumili sa amin sa guro. Maya-maya pa, sinabi niyang may nagtitinda umano ng pastil kaya hinabol kami agad ni sir,” one of the three students said.
“Kami nalang ng nakababata kong kapatid ang naiwan. Nais kong makapagtapos, makatrabaho, mapagtapos ko ang nakababata kong kapatid sa pag-aaral,” another student said.
“Ang parents ko nagsasaka lang sila. Batid kong hindi nila ma-provide ang kailangan ko sa aking pag-aaral ngunit nagsa-strive ako na magtinda para hindi na sila mahirapan,” the third student said.
According to the Schools Division Office, teachers and outsiders are allowed to sell at the canteen as long as they follow food safety and food handling guidelines.
“That’s one thing that we are also checking at bini-verify pa natin definitely. Isa yan sa tututukan ng Schools Division upang ma-correct rin natin if there are, siguro, may mga konting dapat i-improve in terms of implementation ng policies,” Salvilla said.
