Anthony Rosaldo, Thea Astley, and Garrett Bolden to star in 'Rent'

Kapuso singers Anthony Rosaldo, Thea Astley, and Garrett Bolden are set to start in the Jonathan Larson's musical Rent.

Anthony is Roger, a now-struggling musician who is HIV-positive and ex-junkie. Thea is Mimi, a stripper and drug addict who is also Roger's love interest.

Garett is Tom Collins, a professor with AIDS who used to be a roommate of Roger and Mark.

Joining the three Kapuso stars are Molly Langley as Mimi, alternating with Thea, Ian Pangilinan and Reb Atadero alternating as Mark, Justine Peña and Jasmine Fitzgerald alternating as Maureen, Adrian Lindayag and Lance Reblando alternating as Angel, Mica Fajardo and Fay Castro alternating as Joanne, Markki Stroem as Benny, and Guji Lorenzana as Benny/Mr. John.

Also in the cast are Abi Sulit as Pam, Jordan Andrews as Gordono, Misha Fabian as Ally, Chesko Rodriguez and Paul Valdez alternating as Steve, Kai Banson as Alexi Darling, and Vyen Villanueva as Paul.

Rent tells the story of a group of young artists and their struggles to survive and create a life in Lower Manhattan's East Village. Some of the show's songs are “La Vie Boheme,” “Seasons of Love,” and “Take Me or Leave Me.”

The musical gained critical acclaim throughout its run, winning a Pulitzer Prize for Drama and a Tony Award for Best Musical.

The 9 Works Theatrical previously staged Rent in 2010 and 2011. In 2023, they staged another Jonathan Larson's musical tick, tick... BOOM! that starred Khalil Ramos in the lead role.
