Rocco Nacino: King of Filipino icons?

By CHERRY SUN

Because of his sun-kissed complexion, manly demeanor and charisma, Rocco Nacino isn’t new to portraying roles iconic in the Filipino culture. And, he is off to add another in that roster as he stars in the indie film Ibong Adarna.

Rocco has played a lot of Filipino characters. He has given life to title roles like the Ilokano epic hero Lam-ang, our national hero Jose Rizal, and the young martyr and recently-canonized San Pedro Calungsod.

In his upcoming project, he will portray the role of a prince in the adaptation of the Filipino epic Ibong Adarna.

“I play the part of the prince na makakakuha kay Ibong Adarna,” he introduced.
He said he did not hesitate to get the role because of a personal experience.

“Kaya ko tinanggap yung project na ‘yun kasi I came back here in 2000, hirap na hirap ako sa Tagalog. Hirap na hirap ako sa Ibong Adarna kaya tumatak sa akin ‘yung subject na ‘yun. Kaya nung inoffer sa akin, that’s it, I’ll do what I can,” he said.

Rocco and his fellow cast members already saw the film in a private screening.
“I saw the special effects and it’s beautiful, sobra. The special effects were done beautifully and it was up a notch kaya excited na ako makita, lalo na ng mga estudyante kasi it’s part of their curriculum to learn Ibong Adarna,” he shared.

Ibong Adarna was originally conceptualized as an entry to the Metro Manila Film Festival, but was later put on hold. Rocco said the film is set to be released in time for the resumption of school some time in August.
