Jun Lana wins Best Director at 3rd Madrid International Film Festival

Award-winning writer and director Jun Lana adds another achievement under his belt as he was named Best Director in the 3rd Madrid International Film Festival for his film, Barber’s Tales.

Previously, the said film has competed in Udine, Hong Kong, Abu Dhabi and Tokyo. Barber's Tales landed 3rd place in the Audience Award in the Udine Far East Film Festival last May. In the Hong Kong-Asia Film Financing Forum (HAF), it won the Best HAF Project Award, Technicolor Award, ARRI Award, and Catapoolt Award.

The film stars Celebrity Bluff host, Eugene Domingo. In the film, set during the martial law, she portrayed the role of a widow who manages her late husband’s barber shop.



For her performance, Eugene was nominated for Best Actress in the Madrid International Film Festival. She won Best Actress at the 26th Tokyo International Film Festival for her role in the film.

Barber' s Tales also received other nominations in the Madrid International Film Festival, including Best Foreign Film and Best Producer of a Feature Film for Ferdinand Lapuz and Tony Tuviera.

Lana, who is also a Palanca Hall of Famer, thanked his husband, Perci Intalan and producers in his speech. He also dedicated his Best Director award to the film’s lead actress, Eugene Domingo.

Previously, Jun Lana has already been recognized internationally. In 2012, his film, Bwakaw was selected as the Filipino entry for the Best Foreign Language category of the 85th Academy Awards.
