Rafa Siguion Reyna on working with famed director and writer parents: 'I had a lot of fun'

Kapuso actor Rafa Siguion-Reyna stars in his first feature film Hari ng Tondo, a Cinemalaya entry directed by his father, award-winning director Carlos Siguion-Reyna, and with screenplay by his mother actress/scriptwriter Bibeth Orteza.
How did this lad fare alongside his famed parents?
“They’re proud. It’s my first feature film din, and napanood nila ‘yung scenes and they said I did a good job. That’s good to hear,” he said.
Rafa also considers himself lucky working for his dad’s comeback film.
“Actually hindi siya nakaka-pressure because, I don’t know, everything I learned about acting, for me natuto ako from my mom and sa daddy ko,” he revealed.
“I learn from my parents so pag dinidirect niya ako, alam ko na [ang] hanap niya. So ‘yun it was very easy. With my dad kasi, he supports actors making choices, so it’s fun. I had a lot of fun,” he continued.
While he said acting, show business and filmmaking are usual topics over their breakfasts and dinners at home, he still maintains good professional relationships with his parents on the set.
“Parang tinrato lang nila ako na parang isang artista which I appreciate kasi noong bago pa ako magtrabaho for them, iniisip ko ‘paano nila ako madi-direct, eh pag gumimik ako, ‘yung mga ganun. Pag lumabas ako on finals, sasabihin ng mommy ko ‘matulog ka!',” he shared, referring to his naughty version of a son.
“We’ve had that discussion, nakausap ko na sila about that. Kung magkakatrabaho man tayo, we have to give each other space. I’ll give you space, 'di ko kayo kukulitin about anything… para we can work. And that happened naman,” he added.
Rafa also feels comfortable consulting his parents about his career and other choices, also because of the different perspectives his parents bring to the table.
The greatest lesson he got from his dad: “pag mag-o-audition ka, kapag isa kang artista at napagsabihan ka ng direktor, hindi ibig sabihin na galit sa’yo ‘yung direktor o hindi ka magaling na artista. It means that he just wants you to adjust”.
And from his mom: “I just learned na kuha ka lang ng trabaho kahit ano, kahit modelling, kahit singing, dancing. Kung kaya mo, gawin mo kasi ‘yun ang importante sa industriya.”
