Nickelina: Good at Being Bad

Award winning actress Alessandra de Rossi made it to the headlines when she agreed to join the show Super Twins. Portraying one of Eliazar’s evil followers, Nickelina, proved to be a woman to reckon with. Text by Loretta G. Ramirez. Nickelina is the heartless aunt of Sha-sha and Tin-tin. The stepsister of Manuel, the twins’ father, she blames him for the death of her dad. Nickelina naturally wants revenge and promises to make Manuel’s family pay. Eliazar, sensing the evil in Nickelina, realized that he can use her in defeating the Super Twins and gave her powers and transformed her into Nickela – one of his metal villains. Alex, the metal villain “Ako si Nickelina, tita ng mga bata, but ngayon, villain na ko, may costume na ko, nakuha na ko ni panginoong Eliazar, kaya ayun. So far, laser gun pa lang ang meron ako, at saka flying powers,” shares Alex about her role in Super Twins. She considers her costume as the most challenging part of the role. She confides to iGMA that the material of the costume is hot and that she has to be sprayed by silver paint every time she plays the part. “Ang pangit kasi ng timing e, summer, yung tela niya kasi parang pang bathing suit, pag mainit, mainit talaga. Pag malamig ok naman. Tapos may spray pa ko, kasi silver yun e, so paguwi mo ng bahay, kailangan mong maligo,” adds Alex. Together with Gabby Eigenmann, they try to bring the Super Twins down and get their rings. Bida vs. Kontrabida We all know that Alex is a very versatile actress. She can play a variety of roles with the same intensity and passion. But what does Alex de Rossi prefer, being a bida or kontrabida? “Ay! Kontrabida!” Alex emphatically exclaimed. “Well unang una sa kontrabida, palagi kang maganda, kasi syempre, di ka naman pwedeng magtaray kung pangit ka di ba? Ang kapal naman ng mukha mo (laughs). Tapos isa pa, walang masyadong nire-require na acting, kung di nakakunot lang ang noo mo, nakataas ang kilay, that’s it, di ba?, Di katulad ng bida mayroon kang tear, mayroon kang pain, mayroon kang kung ano man, kung kontrabida, kahit in love ka, masama pa rin ang mukha mo, so, walang effort masyado,” she explains. She obviously enjoys being bad and is indeed very effective in being a kontrabida. She however wishes that her future projects in GMA be drama shows. “Mas masarap mag drama kesa mag fantasy, kasi walang costume, hindi maiinit. At saka mas madaling umakting. Mahirap kayang umakting ng kinukuryente ka no!? Ano naman ang malay mo dun?” Alex jokingly adds. She considers her role in Super Twins as one of her most memorable. She also says that she will miss the show and the cast when it ends in June and have this message to leave the fans of Super Twins: “Salamat sa suporta niyo. Huwag niyo akong i-hate. Ang sama kaya ng ugali ko dito, sobrang sama, pati ako kapag pinapanood ko yung sarili ko naiirita ako, grabe ang sama ko, pero sana wag silang magalit. Matatalino naman ang mga fans ngayon, alam na nila yun. So yun lang tuloy tuloy lang sana yung suporta nyo at saka sa mga next ko pang show sa GMA.” Catch her silver-clad performance as Nickelina in Super Twins, weeknights, after Asian Treasures.
