You can’t please everyone. This was a lesson that Jonalyn Viray learned the hard way when she began in show business in 2004.

“Syempre sobrang laki ng in-e-expect nila sa akin,” she said.

She was 15 years old when she won Pinoy Pop Superstar and was solely set on making music. Her innocence, to her dismay, earned her flak.

“During those times na di pa ko masyadong marunong mag-ayos ng sarili, ‘di pa ko marunong mag-communicate masyado sa mga tao, jinudge [judge] na nila agad ako,” she shared.

She recalls receiving hurtful comments left and right.

Upon the difficult discovery that sheer passion isn’t enough to win people’s hearts, she focused on honing her skill and outperforming herself each time.

With her dedication to her craft, the help of people around her, and the acceptance of feedback both good and bad, she was able to rise above the negativity and make a name for herself.

“[Thankfully], na-overcome ko naman po siya,of course, through [the help of the people] sa paligid ko.

After winning Pinoy Pop Superstar, the award-winning singer feels changed. With her ten-year strong career and world-class talent, Jonalyn has developed the skill of identifying what she will prioritize and what she needs to dismiss.
