Kapuso stars reap awards in Cinemalaya 2014

Dennis Trillo-starrer, The Janitor was the biggest winner of Cinemalaya 2014. Kapuso stars Robert Arevalo, Barbie Forteza and Miggs Cuaderno won top acting awards in the tenth edition of the film festival.

The Janitor features Trillo as a policeman who takes matters into his own hands to track down suspects in a controversial bank robbery case. The film, which was part of the Directors’ Showcase, won Best Direction by Mike Tuviera, Best Screenplay by Aloy Adlawan and Mike Tuviera, Best Editing by Tara Illenberger and Best Sound by Mike Idioma. Jose Manalo’s son, Nicco Manalo was named Best Supporting Actor for his performance in the film.

In the acting department, Superstar Nora Aunor was named Best Actress in the Directors’ Showcase category for her performance as a human trafficking worker in the Joel Lamangan film, Hustisya. She co-starred with Kapuso actor, Rocco Nacino in the film.

Ang Dalawang Mrs. Real actor, Robert Arevalo was named Best Actor in the Directors’ Showcase category for his performance as a successful man trying to reconnect with his Tondo roots in Hari ng Tondo. It is the comeback film of seasoned director, Carlos Siguion-Reyna. The film received the Special Jury Prize. Cris Villonco also won Best Supporting Actress in the Directors’ Showcase category for her performance in the film.

In the New Breed category, Kapuso young and teen stars made a splash. The Half Sisters lead actress, Barbie Forteza won Best Supporting Actress in the film, Mariquina, where she played Imelda, a dreamy shoemaker’s daughter.

Kapuso young actor, Miggs Cuaderno was named Best Supporting Actor for his raw and gripping performance as a child fighter in Children’s Show.

Elmo Magalona, together with #Y co-stars, Coleen Garcia, Sophie Albert and Kit Thompson were recognized for their collective performance in the film. They were given a Special Acting Ensemble award.

New Breed entry, Sundalong Kanin, which stars Kapuso actors, Enzo Pineda and Marc Abaya was given the Audience Choice Award.
