Kings of P-Pop SB19 continue to captivate fans worldwide with their latest world class performance.
On July 1, the boy group made their debut on Japan's famous YouTube music channel, THE FIRST TAKE, delivering an amazing rendition of their global hit track "GENTO."
In the video, the members were visibly excited as they entered the iconic studio set. Fans were quick to notice a small but meaningful gesture from the group's leader, Pablo, who uttered the Japanese word "Itadakimasu," which is traditionally said before a meal. It hinted his confidence in their upcoming performance.
As SB19 started their musical number, each member showcased impressive live vocal skills, earning high praise from fans.
In less than 24 hours, the video earned over 500,000 views and 61,000 likes as of writing, quickly trending on YouTube and topping X (formerly Twitter) trends alongside "#THEFIRSTTAKE_SB19初登場" and "GENTO."
Netizens expressed their delight and pride in SB19, recognizing them as the first Southeast Asian artists invited to perform an OPM song on the influential music media outlet.
SB19 themselves were deeply moved by the experience. “It was a true first take, so we were very nervous and overwhelmed, but it was fun and an amazing experience,” they shared in a press release.
The group added, “Above all, we are grateful for this opportunity and for being able to represent the Philippines by performing our song here. We are honored to showcase our music and culture to the world through THE FIRST TAKE.”
THE FIRST TAKE has over 9.78 million YouTube subscribers and gained popularity for featuring international artists such as LISA (Japanese singer), Harry Styles, Avril Lavigne, Loren Allred, and notable South Korean artists like Stray Kids, RIIZE, BTS' V, ITZY, and (G)I-DLE. Each performance showcases the artists' vocal skills with the unique challenge of performing in just one take.
In addition to their appearance on THE FIRST TAKE, SB19 recently thrilled fans with the release of the music video for their dance-pop collaboration track "Ready," featuring Filipino-American rapper and singer Apl.de.Ap.
SB19 has also been nominated for Nickelodeon's Kids' Choice Awards as Favorite Asian Act. Online voting concludes on July 14, with the awards ceremony scheduled for July 17.
