Korean singer 10CM reciprocated TJ Monterde's gesture of having him as a guest at his previous concert by sharing the stage with him during his “Closer to You” concert last night, August 31, at the Newport Performing Arts Theater in Pasay City.
During a short break, 10CM told the audience how his stint at TJ's inspired him to do a solo concert in the Philippines.
“I have one non-Korean friend. I love this guy. I love his voice, his music, his talent,” he started his introduction for the local singer.
He continued, “Last year, he invited me to Manila. It was my first event [here]. I got fascinated with everything that I wished to have a solo concert here. And my wish finally came true tonight. Thanks to this guy. So, I will sing one of his songs. This is my favorite.”
The concertgoers started screaming when 10CM started playing “Palagi” and TJ joined him on stage.
After their duet, 10CM asked TJ, “I have a question for you. How can I be a star in the Philippines like you?”
The husband of KZ Tandingan shyly replied, “No, that was… I have to ask you back. I was in your concert in Seoul. How can I be like Kwon Jung-yeol?”
Then, 10CM persistently said, “Oh no, I wanna be a star like you in the Philippines.”
TJ told him, while fans were shouting, “You are a star in the Philippines. You are a star in Manila. Can you hear that?”
The Korean singer turned to the audience and smiled, “Thank you, guys, but I need more.”
TJ assured 10CM that last night won't be his last concert in Manila.
“You know, this is your first concert in Manila. I am saying first because there will be more 10CM concerts here in Manila,” he said.
Following this conversation, 10CM surprised TJ with an impromptu song titled after his name.
“He has no idea about this. But I have a present for you. It's a song. I have a song for you. I wanna make it with you someday as a collaboration. I have no lyrics. I just made it in my waiting room.”
The “Lean On Me” started playing his acoustic guitar and repetitively sang TJ's name.
“First time kong magawan ng kanta na ang title ang pangalan ko,” TJ reacted.
The two singers then promised each other to discuss possible collaboration.
Before leaving the stage, TJ confessed, "To those know the story, I'm a huge fans of 10CM since 2017 or 2018. I watched his videos, I followed him on Instagram, and I even watched him on Instagram, 'Hey, bro, it's TJ from the Philippines. Love from the Philippines.' I have receipts, until now, of my DMs [direct messages] on Instagram then.
"Last year, I was so surprised he messaged me because he love my song 'Palagi.' Then, we just started communicating. Just being with you on stage, 10CM, is already a dream come true to me."
Aside from their “Palagi” duet, TJ also performed “Tulad Mo,” which he wrote four years ago for his wife KZ.
On the other hand, 10CM serenaded his Filipino fans with his romantic love songs that were popularized by some of the hit Korean drama series such as “But It's Destiny” on Crash Landing on You, “Where is Dream” on Start-Up (2020), “Drawer” on Our Beloved Summer (2021), “Tell Me It's Not a Dream” on Queen of Tears (2024), and “Spring Snow” on Lovely Runner (2024).
