The Philippines is truly experiencing a winning streak, with Filipino representatives continuously making waves on the global stage.
From the vibrant atmosphere of the Paris Olympics to the exciting events like the 2024 Mister Global pageant, Filipinos are united in their joy and support for the talented winners. It's a thrilling time to be a Filipino as the country's representatives shine bright in competitions that capture hearts worldwide. With their recent recognitions, these winners also inspire the nation filled with pride and excitement.
Another remarkable achievement was recently added to the country's accolades when Pinay athlete Tachiana Mangin took home the gold medal at the World Taekwondo Junior Championships in Chuncheon, South Korea.
On Facebook, the Philippine Taekwondo Association joyfully announced Tachiana's triumph. The standout taekwondo athlete secured the gold after defeating South Korean competitor Hyanggi Kim in the deciding round of the women's 49kg finals. Tachiana won the first round with a score of 14-8, while Hyanggi claimed the second round with a 4-3 score.
Adding to the celebration of her gold win, Tachiana's recognition also marks a historic moment for the Philippines. After 28 long years, her victory has become the country's first podium finish in the championships, following Alex Borromeo's initial win in Barcelona way back in 1996. Furthermore, Tachiana has become the Philippines' first-ever female gold medalist at the junior world championships. As of this writing, she has also been the only top finisher among the nine-athlete contingent fielded at the 2024 Chuncheon games.
According to an article from World Taekwondo, Tachiana couldn't help but express her delight in winning the championships. “I was very emotional, because it has been a long time since the Philippines have won a gold medal or even a medal on the world stage at the World Junior Championships,” she said.“I am very honored to hear the Philippine national anthem play at the podium once again.”
The World Taekwondo-organized tournament is the largest TKD competition for the juniors category with several countries worldwide gathering to compete. The event has been held biennially ever since its inauguration in 1996.
