Thea Astley receives Outstanding Female Lead Performance in a Musical award at the 15th Gawad Buhay 3rd Quarter Citations for her role in Once on This Island A Musical.
Thea played the role of Ti Moune, a peasant girl. She is first seen as a child saved from a flood by the gods.
In October, Thea thanked the whole cast and crew for becoming her theater family and reflected on her experience playing Ti Moune.
Thea's fellow All-Out Sundays star Garett Bolden also appeared in the theater production, playing the role of Agwe.
Once on This Island A Musical is a coming-of-age one-act stage musical based on the 1985 novel The Peasant Girl by Rosa Guy.
Set in the Caribbean, it's a retelling of Hans Christian Andersen's fairy tale The Little Mermaid. The story starts with a peasant girl who falls in love with a rich boy and makes a deal with the gods to save his life.
Its Philippine stage adaptation ran from September 6-29 at RCBC Plaza, Makati.
