Anthony Mackie

Find out how Anthony Mackie prepared for his role in 'Captain America: Brave New World'

American actor Anthony Mackie expressed how it was a dream come true to play one of the most iconic superheroes, Captain America. His Marvel character, Sam Wilson, also known as The Falcon, was named as the next to take up the mantle.

It can be recalled that at the end of Avengers: End Game, Steve Rogers (Chris Evans) passed on his shield and mantle as Captain America to Sam.

In an online interview with Martin Javier, Anthony revealed how emotional the passing of the shield scene with Chris was.

“It was a combination of a long road of work and patience. I never saw it coming, I never thought in any lifetime I would be Captain America,” the American actor said.

Anthony also shared the intense preparations he did to play the iconic role in his upcoming movie, “Captain America: Brave New World,” including yoga and pilates.

“I did a lot of yoga and a lot of pilates because I just needed to be more flexible, I needed more core strength, I realized that this was gonna be a lot more work than all the other stuff, all the other times I've been in the suit, I've been on the wires,” Anthony said.

Meanwhile, first-time Marvel director Julius Onah said that many will be able to relate to the story of Sam in the movie.

“You know, this is a Captain America whose superpower is empathy and that was something that's really important to me. I wanted to tell a story that could leave you inspired at the end of it, leave you inspired by the idea of seeing good in each other, and it was just something that could come very organically to this because of who Sam Wilson is,” Julius said.

Marvel fans should also watch for Harrison Ford's portrayal of the Red Hulk, who would make the life of Sam as the newest Captain America harder.

Filipino fans could not be prouder of Julius who lived and grew up in the Philippines until he was six years old. He added that he knew a few Filipino words, including the morning greeting “Magandang umaga,” and a lot of bad words.

Julius revealed that he also used to study in a Montessori school and that he “ate way too much champorado” when he was young.

Meanwhile, Captain America: Brave New World will be shown in theaters on February 12.
