Miss Grand International statement on Rachel Gupta termination

The Miss Grand International organization has released screenshots of emails exchanged between Rachel Gupta and the organization.

The messy public battle between the Miss Grand International (MGI) organization and former titleholder Rachel Gupta continues to unfold in public as the organization has released a new, lengthier statement on social media.

In one of the more recent posts on its official Instagram account, the Miss Grand International organization uploaded more than 20 slides outlining the different reasons why they stripped Rachel of her title.

Some of the reasons provided that were not included in MGI president Nawat Itsaragrisil recent live include claims that Rachel had arranged for an unauthorized sponsorship arrangement with one of the pageant's sponsors, unsubstantiated expense claims on Rachel's part, violating contract terms with MGI while she was in India, and alleged coercion on Rachel's part regarding a trip to Guatemala.

The Miss Grand International organization also provided screenshots of the email exchanges between Rachel and MGI's Teresa Chaivisut. The attachments on these emails were also shared on the Instagram post.

Nawat and Rachel both traded allegations online regarding the Miss Grand International organization, with Rachel uploading an hour-long video on YouTube claiming she was subject to “constant harassment, mental torture and systemic mistreatment.”

Other allegations that Rachel outlined in her video include body shaming and verbal abuse, non-payment from the organization, as well as the dismissal of an incident of sexual harassment. She also claimed that she was repeatedly threatened with dethronement throughout her reign.

In response, the Miss Grand International organization posted an announcement on its Facebook account that Rachel is now stripped of her title. As of this writing, the announcement has garnered more than 60,000 reactions, more than 4,000 comments, and has been shared more than 8,000 times.

The Miss Grand International organization then hinted in an Instagram Reel that Miss Grand International first runner-up CJ Opiaza might be taking the crown, which was later verified after the organization announced that CJ would be crowned on June 3 at the MGI Hall in Bangkok.

Rachel Gupta is just the latest Miss Grand International winner to be stripped of their title. Back in October last year, 2024 Miss Grand International second runner-up Miss Grand Myanmar Thae Su Nyein was removed from her position due to alleged “inappropriate behavior and actions that violated several regulations.”

There was also controversy even before Thae Sy Nyein was stripped of her title. Three weeks before she was stripped of her title, the Miss Grand Cambodia organization vowed that the Miss Grand International pageant would never return to their country.

More than 20 delegates from the Philippines are now hoping to be CJ's successor. Check this year's Miss Grand Philippines candidates in the gallery below.
