Carmi Martin: The cougar, the transvestite and the alcoholic?

They say that the true measure of an actor’s talent is his versatility in tackling roles.

 

In that case, Carmi Martin is a superstar.

 

The fifty-one-year-old actress can be watched weekly as the cougar Mama A in Ismol Family who’s sure to give viewers, both young and old, a good laugh.

 

Soon, she will begin working on an indie film where she has to portray a role she has never tried before.

 

“Meron akong indie na gagawin… 'yung role ko po ay isang transvestite. I like it,” she told Walang Tulugan.

 

In the upcoming Metro Manila Film Fest, meanwhile, she plays the alcoholic mother of Coco Martin’s character.

 

“Challenging na naman kasi labandera ako (dito). They challenged me na lumabas ng wala talagang makeup, hindi nag-blow dry, walang false lashes so it’s a different role,” she shared.

 

For Carmi, she has no role preferences because she loves acting so much and might accept whatever extreme character she is given.

 

“Very passionate kasi ako sa trabaho ko kaya I’m so thankful,” she noted.

 

Even after decades into her showbiz career, she still sees herself expand her skill set, and she wouldn’t have it any other way.

 

“Talagang masarap na hinahasa mo [ang talents] mo, [na] you grow sa showbiz. Hindi ka [dapat] natatapos sa isang linya lang,” she declared.
