Happy Birthday Kuya Germs!

Last October 4th was a special day for celebrity and showbiz veteran German Moreno. Not only did Kuya Germs celebrate his birthday in a special episode of Sis, with some of his closest friends as guests, he also plans a month-long celebration of his birthday on his late-night program Master Showman Presents. Text by Yvette U. Tan. “We’re preparing my birthday celebration,” says Kuya Germs. “Every year, for the whole month of October, ginagawan namin ng celebration. Even anniversary ng show ko, one month lagi ang celebration.” Kuya Germs’ birthday celebration this year will be a special one, as he will be joined by some of the biggest and brightest names in showbiz. “Marami tayong surprises like Miss Susan Roces will join me and Pilita Corrales, marami, maraming mga pangalan,” he says. Kuya Germs is known in the industry for helping lots of young stars gain a foothold in showbiz. He was the brains behind the immensely popular That’s Entertainment in the 1980s, a show that brought us celebrities like Janno Gibbs, Manilyn Reynes, Keempee De Leon and Isabel Granada. Kuya Germs has always thought of his role in the lives of young actors as a privilege. He is honored to have helped so many fresh faces get a head start, and wants to continue to do so. “Maybe isa lang ako sa lucky guys na binigyan ng pagkakataon ng Lord na ganoon (ang) maging role ko dito,” he says. “And not for anything, talaga sa dinami-dami ng talents na tinulungan ko, di ako tipong namerwisyo sa kanila (or) nanghingi ng anything when it comes to money. Talagang bukas sa kalooban ko ‘yung ginawa kong pagtulong sa kanilang lahat. Kaya nagpapasalamat ako na naging ganyan ang patakaran ko sa buhay.” When asked what his birthday wish was, Kuya Germs humbly asked for more opportunities to help others, just as he has always been doing. “Hinihingi ko kay Lord na dagdagan pa niya ‘yung stay ko dito sa mundo na nilikha niya dahil binigyan niya ako ng mga obligation din like…‘yung anak ko. Gusto ko pa sila makitang mag-grow saka makatulong pa ako, di lang sa pamilya ko kundi pati sa mga talent na kahit ‘walang tulugan,’ mayroon akong mga talents na tinutulungan doon. I want to do that hanggang maari.” His late-night program Master Showman, is now in it’s ninth year and is still going strong, especially overseas. Says Kuya Germs, “Salamat din sa Panginoon dahil kahit na ang oras namin ay walang tulugan, now proven even in the United States, even in the Middle East ay maraming nanonood.” To his loyal fans, Kuya Germs has only thanks and blessings. “Sa mga minamahal kong Kapuso dito, nakita niyo ako, kung papaano ako nag-grow sa showbiz -- mula sa umpisa hanggang ngayon. Hindi naman lahat mangyayari sa buhay ko kundi dahil sa inyo. Hindi ko makakalimutan ang malaking utang na loob ko sa inyo na hindi ko mababayaran kahit kalian. Sana maipagpatuloy niyo pa. I’ll do my very best pa rin para sa lahat.” Some of Kuya Germs’ alagas also wish him the best on his special month: Manilyn Reynes: Wish ko magkaroon siya ng good health lagi. Wish ko rin na ‘yung mga taong natulungan niya, maibalik din ‘yung mga tulong at love na ibinigay sa kanila ni Tito Germs. Siguro more than anything, gusto ko din magpasalamat dahil sa tulong na ibinigay sa akin simula sa That’s Entertainment hanggang sa mga major concerts ko, lahat-lahat. Jojo Alejar: My wish is for Kuya Germs to have more years because that would…translate to more people being helped by him in and out of show business. Alam kong gasgas na ‘yun pero ‘yun ‘yung nakikita ko lang because he’s so blessed and he shares his blessings. I think the best is for him to have more years so that he can enjoy his blessings and he can share his blessings. John Joven: Birthday wish ko lang talaga, maraming-maraming blessings pa ang dumating sa kanya kasi marami siyang natulungan. By nature, talagang matulungin si Kuya Germs.
