By MARAH RUIZ

The Holy Week brings with it a somber time which most take to contemplate previous deeds and plan for how to better themselves.

Sometimes, we can gain insight into our lives through a creative medium like films. Fortunately, these four insightful movies are making their debut on Philippine free TV.

Maryo J. de los Reyes' Bamboo Flowers muses on the human struggle, all while celebrating the beauty of Bohol.

It stars Kapuso cutie Ruru Madrid as Omel, a young man who wants to be a singer to help his ailing grandfather and has to contend with his overprotective mother. Meanwhile, Max Collins is Dolores, a hotel chambermaid who is torn between her love for her boyfriend and an easier life being offered to her by an elderly foreign tourist who has taken a liking to her.

Catch Bamboo Flowers on Maundy Thursday, April 2 at 4:00pm.

From director Jose Javier Reyes comes Mga Mumunting Lihim—a story of the different layers of four women's friendship.

Judy Ann Santos plays Mariel who recently died of cancer and left her diaries to Carla, played by Iza Calzado. Their two other friends, Sandra played by Agot Isidro and Olive played by Janice de Belen, discourage her from reading ?t?he diaries. Soon, Mariel's honest thoughts put a strain in their friendship as they reveal the truths they could not tell each other face to face.

Watch Mga Mumunting Lihim on Good Friday, April 3 at 9:00pm.

Also from Reyes is Ano ang Kulay ng mga Nakalimutang Pangarap? It bravely asks: while we treat our household help like famiy, in the end, are they really?

Rustica Carpio is Teresa, a woman who has spent most of her life serving the same family. The problem arises when the matriarch of the family dies leaving her displaced, as most of the fa?m?ily members have long migrated to the US.

Ryan Agoncillo, Bobby Andrews and Jackie Lou Blanco are Andrew, Stella and Vince respectively. These siblings are intent on selling all their properties—including their mother's home—and go back to the US.

They are at a loss as to what to do with Teresa, who after serving almost three generations of their family, is penniless and has little contact with her own family.

Don't miss Ano ang Kulay ng mga Nakalimutang Pangarap? on Black Saturday, April 4 at 4:00pm.

Another film that focuses on family ties and beyond is Brillante Mendoza's Thy Womb.

It tells the story of Shaleha, played by Nora Aunor, a Muslim midwife who cannot bear children of her own. She selflessly sets out to find a new wife for her husband Bangas-An played by Bembol Roco.

The unique story and the stunning visuals of the movie has made it a favorite in the international film fest circuit.

Thy Womb won a handful of awards at ?the ?2012 Metro Manila Film Festival, including Best Actress, Best Director, Best Original Story, Best Cinematography, Gatpuno Antonio J. Villegas Cultural Award, Most Gender Sensitive Film and Female Star of the Night.
