It has been four years since acoustic singer Aiza Seguerra made an album. This year, the former child star is thrilled to be back on the road to promote her very first album under Universal Records.

In Aiza's radio tour this morning (May 26) in Sikat Sa Barangay, the talented performer was Mama Belle's guest DJ. She was ecstatic to announce her latest album titled ‘Araw Gabi: Mga Awit ni Maestro Ryan.' The said album is a collection of the most loved songs of the great composer, Mr. Ryan Cayabyab.

In an exclusive interview with GMANetwork.com, the former child star expressed her gratitude toward her record label for entrusting her with this big project.

Aiza said, “Ang nangyari yata is talagang Universal has plans already to do a tribute album para kay Mr. C. Sakto ‘yung dating ko, sakto, sakto. So happy ako that they give me the project 'cause siguro kung hindi mag-lo-lobby ako para ibigay talaga sa akin.”

When asked which particular songs by Mr. C are her all-time favorites, she named ‘Araw Gabi’ and ‘Minsan Ang Minahal Ay Ako.’

According to Aiza, ‘Araw Gabi’ is very close to her heart since this is Liza Diño and her love song.

“I love that song, for me kasi song namin ng wife ko ‘yun. So parang gusto ko ‘yung mga sinabi niya dun song na ‘yun. How he (Ryan Cayabyab) feels whenever he thinks of his love one and I think he wrote that song for his wife also.”

Last December, Aiza and Liza tied the knot in an intimate ceremony held in San Francisco, California.

Meanwhile, ‘Minsan Ang Minahal Ay Ako’ reminds her of all the challenges she went through in showbiz.

She explained, “'Yung 'Minsan Ang Minahal Ay Ako' naman it’s because nakaka-relate ako because actor din ako and siyempre sa buhay ng isang artista 'di ba may ups and downs.”

Thankful to GMA

Being a strong advocate of the LGBT community, we asked Aiza how she feels about mainstream media now becoming more open to stories about the life of homosexuals in this country.

Recently, GMA-7 premiered the Telebabad series The Rich Man’s Daughter which tackles the life of lesbian couple Jade (Rhian Ramos) and Althea (Glaiza de Castro).

In 2013, the Network also created the groundbreaking series My Husband’s Lover which was hailed by many as an eye-opening series about the gay community.

According to Aiza, it’s about time that television networks develop stories about the LGBT.

“Well I’m happy because I think it’s about time that, you know, people see that LGBT people are people. It’s normal that we have feelings

“I’m just happy that right now na mas nabibigyan ng focus na parang ‘eto this is how we are.”

She also added that it’s crucial to correct some misconceptions about them as well.

“Kasi ako pinaka ayoko sa lahat na nagiging laughing stock ‘yung mga LGBT. No, we are people. We have comedians, we have good ones, but at the same time we have singers, we have actors, we have businessman, we have executives.”

Moreover, she praised the Kapuso network for its bold move to conceptualize stories about the LGBT, which were considered taboo.

“We are everywhere. And I’m happy that GMA is really open, kasi we all know the power of television 'di ba and I’m happy that GMA is open na ipakita rin ang mundo namin.”
