Nanay Rosa

No mother would deliberately lead her child to harm. This is probably the reason why mothers have always been influential in their children’s lives. As a drama that may well depict reality, Pati ba Pintig ng Puso? shows just how great a mother’s role is in anyone’s life. Text by Jessa Ericka C. Bien Photos courtesy of GMA Network Meet Nanay Rosa (Jennifer Sevilla), a meek, loving mother to her daughters Claire (Arci Muñoz) and Jenna ( Yasmien Kurdi ), and a faithful servant to her cruel master, Don Griego (Eddie Gutierrez). Indebted to the Griegos, she has lived all her life working for the wealthy family. “Single mother ako (kina Yasmien at Arci) at naka-depend 'yung pamilya namin kay Señor (Griego)” Jennifer explains. “Ako ('yung) old-timer na katiwala at cook sa bahay ni Don Griego. Nakakaawa ako dito, parang underdog na very submissive sa kanya, talagang ‘Opo, Señor’ (lang). Pinakikisamahan namin siya ng maayos or else, aalis kami sa hacienda.” Rosa juggles her time between attending to the autocratic don’s demands and looking after her daughters. Although she loves both of her girls deeply, she is closer to her younger daughter Jenna, perhaps because she sees herself in the young lady. Having spent her life with the Griegos, she was initially wary when she found out that Jenna had fallen in love with Aldrin, the Griego heir ( JC de Vera ). After realizing how much Jenna already felt for him, she tolerated and even supported her daughter's affection for him. In Reel and Real Life Jennifer may be effectively portraying her role as a doting mother, but she is still no mom in reality. How then, is she able to deliver an excellent performance? “May preparations (ako) physically and mentally” she discloses. “I research on portrayals ng mga iba’t ibang actresses, kasi this is a mother role eh. Lead (at) may edad ('yung) pino-portray ko, (so) mas nag-mature ako physically. Hindi (rin) masyadong madaldal 'yung character ko, pero ang challenge doon (ay kung paano) magre-register 'yung emotions sa facial expression” she explains. As Nanay Rosa, Jennifer takes on the role previously portrayed by the late Charito Solis, which was already a driving force to do well. Other factors that motivate her to give her best are her good personal and working relationships with the cast and crew. According to her, her co-stars are “madaling kasama, magaan ka-trabaho, magaling at dedicated”. Having worked with most of them before, the seasoned actress claims she is already comfortable spending time with all of them. Since its air date, more and more viewers are becoming drawn to the drama that Jennifer and her castmates effectively bring to life on the show. It would be easy to say that she has given justice to the role first played by Charito Solis. And there is more to Rosa than a mother and a majordomo. She keeps a secret that will change the lives of the Griegos forever. What this could be, we can only find out by staying tuned to the show. Can't get enough of Jennifer?
