Playing a hard-core chick in a fictional world is twice as hard as any normal role. Why? Imagine fighting an imaginary opponent or pretending you have magical powers. Mauricio The Fictional Diana Diana Zubiri is a veteran in the fantasy genre. She is best known for her characters in Encantadia as Danaya and in Asian Treasures as Ingrid. The twenty-two year old sexy actress seems to be enjoying her otherworldly roles and she doesn’t mind rumors of being typecast. “Siguro yun yung nakikita ng management na packaging para sa akin. Feeling ko kasi as Danaya nag click kaya di’ pa kami bumibitaw sa ganoon.” She also adds that each role may sound the same but they are all different in their own ways, “Pag dating sa pag Da-Danaya iba yun eh Sangg’re siya eh. Pagdating naman kay Ingrid may powers siya thru anting-anting.” But Diana is gearing for a change and is venturing into different kinds of roles in the future. “Try kong ibahin kung mag shift ako ng character, sana maappreciate nila kung anu yung mas kaya ko pa gawin.” Living a fictional life Having magical powers is not just the only thing Diana has gotten used to. She is also at home in living in an alternate world. She admits that playing a character in a different universe is hard if you’re a virgin to the fanatasy acting department. There’s a lot of hesitation involved, “Parang bagay ba sa akin (yung role) as a character dapat ipopotray mo na ikaw (talaga) to.” She quotes a famous director whose portfolio includes Super Twins and Captain Barbell, “Sabi nga ni Direk Dom, kailangan sa sarili mo maniwala ka na na ito yung mundo mo, para mas mapakita mo thru acting sa mga tao na ito talaga yung mundo.” Being believable isn’t just the only thing that gets the work done, Diana also adds, “Gagawin mo siya dapat ng buong puso.” Though acting in a fantasy-like world may be exciting Diana warns that it may take sometime for an actor to get used to the imaginary enemies and special effects, so she gives a little word of advice to the newcomers, “Yung maipapayo ko sa mga bago, maniwala sila sa gingawa nila mas maganda yung kakalabasan nung acting sa TV. “ Catch Diana every Friday on Bubble Gang!
