Former MMDA Chairman Bayani Fernando dies at 77

Former Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) chairperson Bayani Fernando has passed away.
The sad news was reported by Glen Juego on Super Radyo DZBB on Friday, September 22. Fernando's wife Marides confirmed the news.
According to reports, Fernando was earlier rushed to a hospital in Quezon City after falling from the roof of his house where he was conducting a repair.
Following that, MMDA recently released a statement about its former chairman's death.
“The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority is deeply saddened and shocked by the sudden demise of former Chairman Bayani F. Fernando who served the Authority from June 5, 2002 until November 25, 2009.”
The government agency also said, “A mechanical engineer by profession, Chairman Fernando used scientific and practical approaches in his quest to solve the problems of Metro Manila.”
“A man of few words, Fernando is known to be a workaholic and a disciplinarian among MMDA employees. Under his helm, he put the MMDA in the spotlight. He was the person behind rapid bus lanes and the "Metro Gwapo" campaign transforming the region into a livable metropolis,” they added.
MMDA ended their post with appreciation and a farewell message to Fernando, “Thank you very much for your contributions. Rest now, Sir, for you already got the job done.”
