A magnitude 5.1 earthquake struck off the coast of Baganga, Davao Oriental around 7:06 a.m. on Tuesday, July 28, 2026.

The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS) initially recorded the earthquake at magnitude 5.6 but downgraded it later to magnitude 5.1.

The earthquake was located 07.51°N, 126.68°E - 015 km S 61° E of Baganga town and had a depth of 28 kilometers.

Intensity I - City of Tandag, Surigao del Sur

Intensity I – City of Davao; Santa Maria, Davao Occidental; Matanao and Magsaysay, Davao del Sur; Malungon, Sarangani; Tupi, South Cotabato; San Fernando, Bukidnon; City of Kidapawan and Magpet, Cotabato

PHIVOLCS said the earthquake was tectonic in origin and aftershocks are expected.

Because of the earthquake, classes at all levels in both public and private schools in the town have been suspended until further notice.

However, government offices will remain open to ensure the continued delivery of essential services.
