Philippine version of Viacom’s 'Lip Sync Battle' to air on GMA Network

GMA Network recently acquired the franchise to Viacom’s Lip Sync Battle, with the localized version expected to air on Saturdays, beginning late February. Based on the pop culture phenomenon of lip sync battling, the Philippines series will feature local celebrities going head to head – lip-syncing the song of their choice – battling for the coolest bragging rights in the Philippines.

Celebrated comedian Michael V is set to host the local musical-comedy show, alongside color commentator Iya Villania.

The original series from the U.S. is a ratings and multiplatform superstar for Spike TV and is the most-watched original series in network history, averaging 3 million viewers. The U.S. series has been re-commissioned for 20 more episodes in 2016.

The award-nominated Lip Sync Battle is executive produced for Spike in the U.S. by Casey Patterson of Casey Patterson Entertainment, Jay Peterson of Matador Content, John Krasinski, Stephen Merchant, and Eight Million Plus Productions.

The original U.S. series is hosted by two-time Grammy award winner, LL Cool J with Chrissy Teigen as color commentator, and has featured an array of A-list musical combatants such as Anne Hathaway, Dwayne Johnson, Emily Blunt, Iggy Azalea, Justin Bieber, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, John Legend and John Krasinski. Their performances have been well-received, with several of the clips going viral on social media. Anne Hathaway’s “Wrecking Ball” clip alone garnered over 17 million views to date on YouTube.

In Asia, local formats of Lip Sync Battle are also available in Indonesia, China, and Vietnam.
