Pia Wurtzbach represents the Philippines in United Nations meeting

Pia Alonzo-Wurtzbach attended a high-level meeting on ending AIDS at the United Nations (UN) General Assembly yesterday, June 8.

Held in the UN headquarters in New York, the gathering brought together heads of State and Government, ministers, people living with HIV, representatives from civil society and international organizations, the private sector, scientists, and researchers.

The Miss Universe 2015 titleholder found it an overwhelming opportunity to represent Filipinos and members of the LGBT community from all over the world. She also took the opportunity to learn from international ministers and directors.

During the Q&A portion of the pageant last December, the Filipino-German beauty queen expressed her desire to educate people about HIV. Even before winning the title, she promised to make it one of her priorities.

“If I were to be Miss Universe, I will use my voice to influence the youth and I would raise awareness to certain causes like HIV awareness that is timely and relevant to my country…” she said.
