Filipino singer and actor Hajji Alejandro has died, his family and management confirms on Tuesday, April 22. He was 70.

In a statement from the Alejandro family as reposted by Hajji's manager Girlie Rodis wrote, “It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of our beloved Dad and SOn, Angelito 'Hajji' T. Alejandro.”

The Alejandro family also requested privacy as they process the loss of the OPM icon.

“At this time, we kindly ask for privacy as our family grieves this tremendous loss. We appreciate your understanding and support during this difficult time.”

Earlier this year, Hajji Alejandro's partner, Alynna Velasquez, revealed in an interview that the OPM icon has been battling stage four colon cancer.

"It was just an ordinary day na he had a show...Sa Vigan kasama 'yung Hitmakers. Parang na-bloat siya and he could not breathe, he could not eat, he could not do anything. So sinabi ko pa-check up siya. So, when he had a CT scan nalaman na.... He heard it from the doctor and he said that he needed to have an operation, like, ASAP," said Alynna.

Celebrities and Filipino personalities also showed support for Hajji and asked for prayers for the healing of the OPM singer.

GMA newscaster and radio host Arnold Clavio wrote on his Instagram account, “Prayers for our music icon HAJJI ALEJANDRO . He had colon cancer stage 4 & spread to his lungs & liver. Nothing is impossible with prayers. Beside is his mom. Healing prayers sent.”
