Challenging Luis

He was the scheming plastic surgeon Leandro in Impostora and the devilish half-human and half-metal Draxor in Fantastic Man. As Luis Alandy proves the entertainment world he is ready to take on any role possible, is there anything else that he thinks will be more demanding for him to portray? Text by Jessa Ericka C. Bien Photos by Mitch S. Mauricio “Ang dami ko pang hindi nagagawang roles eh” he humbly answers. “Dream role ko, gusto ko makaganap ng schizo (schizophrenic) talaga. (It’s) something that would challenge me. Or being a lady in a movie or television series – I think it’s hard.” But just why does Luis think portraying a woman’s role is hard, when he has played a gay guy’s character in the comedy flick, Manay Po? “Different kasi 'yung kilos ng babae sa bading eh” he reasons out. “It’s easy to act out gay, pero 'yung pagiging girl, iba eh, that’s something na kalilangan talagang pag-aralan. I think it can challenge me mentally (and) physically.” Unconsciously Sexy With a charming face, a teasing smile and a gorgeous body to match, Luis is one of the fairest leading men in the Kapuso network. In fact, he is Top 77 in Starmometer’s Philippines’ Sexiest Men for 2007. Luis is flattered, but he says it is not his conscious effort to maintain a hot body. “It’s kinda flattering that some people out there find me sexy, but I don’t consider myself sexy. I was (just) part of a play which required me to lift weights and (have a) muscular body” he explains. “(I’m) just a typical guy” he proceeds. “Hindi naman ako vain. I mean, I don’t have six-pack abs, hindi naman ako concerned sa ganoon, so normal lang” he says. The thing that keeps his body fit and right, he shares, is his involvement in sports. “I like basketball (and) I also run (and) jog. Right now, I’m into surfing and wakeboarding” he shares. Currently in a two-year exclusive contract with the Kapuso network, Luis is set to take on another primetime show, La Vendetta with Sunshine Dizon, Jean Garcia and Jennylyn Mercado. He will also star in the movie Dagaw , with Richard Gutierrez and Jewel Mische. Mysterious Although naturally quiet and reserved, Luis feels he has touched the entertainment industry enough for people to acknowledge his acting skills. “I keep that certain mystery in me. Hindi ako 'yung parang superstar (and) maybe I’m not as exposed as others” he observes. Luis thinks his dedication and determination is what keeps him going in showbiz. “Siguro (it’s) the way I work” he notes. “I enjoy everything from having lead roles to doing extras. For me, it’s not how big the role is. It’s just giving justice to the role, loving acting, loving my job. That’s it” he ends. Watch out for Luis in his upcoming projects.
