Lauren Young trains to be a director

By MARY LOUISE LIGUNAS

For Lauren Young, one of her most enriching performing experiences was acting for the play No Filter, a series of monologues and multimedia performances that chronicles the experiences and emotions of a millennial.

“It was different from what I’m used to… [but] I’m always game to try different things so it was a nice experience to dip my feet into something else and I’m glad I did it. I learned so much, I met so many amazing people. The stories spoke to me [and I was inspired] to apply certain lessons in my real life experiences,” she told GMANetwork.com during the launch of the No Filter book.

As a millennial, she admits to having issues and insecurities when it comes to finding her place in the workforce.

“I’m an actor so it’s not a secret that sometimes, you have your off seasons, so I’m experiencing that now,” she said.

The 22-year-old endeavors to transform the negative emotion into something positive by continuously adding to her skill set. This made her decide to try her hand in production.

“I shouldn’t compromise what I love so I joined a group of my friends who have a production company so I’ve been doing BTS work, I’ve been training to be a director with Stronghold MNL. That’s what I’ve been doing [now] so I get a little bit of both – I get to conceptualize [and] I get to be on the set, still doing what I love,” she added.

Lauren assures fellow millennials that things will pan out for the best for people who work hard and strive for excellence so there is no use worrying.

“I think the best thing is take a breather, reevaluate and try to picture yourself five to ten years from now,” she concluded.
